PETERBORO: The Company

Peterboro Cardboards Limited has been a pioneer in Specialty Art and Framing since 1906, today it is the only Canadian company producing matboards in North America.

In late 2001 Peterboro driven by a new management team set out to make Peterboro a truly global company.  The renewed vision for the future of Peterboro has brought with it, qualified staff, fresh product ideas and a solid commitment to customer relationships.

Here are some of the changes and what they mean to our customers:

Renewed vision

“Flexible product lines that meet the everyday needs of our customers.”

Peterboro has created new products that work to tastefully enhance works of art rather than compete with them. We provide framers with matboards that are functional and easy to work with. This effectively translates into savings for framers rather than overly trendy matboards that quickly become dated.

New products

The development of new designs, colours and textures is important however product performance must meet or exceed our customer’s expectations. New product development must now fulfill 2 basic requirements:

1. Standards of quality and performance

Peterboro has added a pulp and paper expert to oversee all product development in addition to a quality control technician to test all incoming raw materials and outgoing finished products. The newly acquired membership in the Fine Art Trade Guild, a framing association setting standards for matboard manufacturing has increased their role in production.

The quality and control teams combined mandate is to work together to insure all products meet rigid guidelines for both quality and performance. Their dedication and strive for excellence has assured our flagship product, Peterboro Conservation is manufactured to the exacting standards of the Fine Art Trade Guild.

2. Development

Our newest specifier reflects Peterboro's ongoing commitment to consistantly expanding our product line. Our enhanced colour range has not only rounded out our colour pallet, but new oversized boards in both new and existing colours contribute even further to our wide selection.

Commitment

The highest quality for the price in the market.”

A simple statement that has truly become the driving force behind Peterboro today. The company’s goal is to have the name Peterboro synonymous with value. This means no compromises in any aspect of what our customers expect from the matboards they use.

The Standards- Protecting Your Artwork

The Fine Art Trade Guild (FATG)

The Fine Art Trade Guild (FATG) - one of the oldest international associations for the art and framing industries-continues its role of setting and maintaining standards with which the trade and its customers can be secure.

Peterboro is proud of its membership in the Guild, and places importance on the fact that it's Conservation Matboards carry the Guild logo.

FATG Managing Director, Rosie Sumner is at pains to point out, this is indicative of adherence to stringent standards.

“Peterboro is a member of the Fine Art Trade Guild, which means as such they commit to the Guild’s Code of Ethics. They also commit to support the Guild standards. They have identified for framers which of the Guild standards each of their matboards meet,” Rosie explained.

“The Guild takes an active and on-going interest in the quality of products which carry its logo, and investigates any challenge to that endorsement.  This vigilance allows framers to be secure that they can confidently use any product bearing that logo.”

The Guild is London-based, however has members in 36 countries. It was founded in 1910 as the successor to the Printseller’s Association which had operated since 1847 to preserve the integrity of limited edition prints against unscrupulous traders.

Fine Art Care & Treatment Standards

The Fine ART Care & Treatment Standards (FACTS) was established in 1994 and evolved from the ever-increasing need for information about the preservation of artwork and keepsakes.

FACTS standards address their subject with the most current scientific research and the widest possible participation. Peterboro Conservation both meets and exceeds FACTS guide for matboard performance.

The standards are reviewed regularly to include new research and are recognized by the Professional Picture Framers Association (PPFA).
